The 2.4mm 2% Thoriated Red Tip Tungsten Electrode is the heavier of the two TIG welding electrodes in the range, suited to welding thicker, heavier gauge stainless steel tube and structural components where greater current capacity and a more robust arc are required. The larger 2.4mm diameter handles higher amperage settings without deteriorating at the tip, maintaining a stable, consistent arc on heavier material throughout the weld.
As with the 1.6mm version, the 2% thoriated red tip formulation is a proven, reliable standard for stainless steel TIG welding — delivering a stable arc, good arc-starting performance, and consistent results across a wide range of material thicknesses and welding positions.
The 2.4mm electrode is the correct choice for heavier structural connections, thicker post profiles, and any welding application where the material thickness and current requirements exceed what the 1.6mm electrode is rated for.
