Do I need welding skills to install Balustrader components?
No โ not at all. Our components are designed to be installed using standard hand tools. No welding is required for the majority of our DIY-friendly systems. If you have basic DIY experience and can follow a step-by-step guide, you can achieve a professional result.
How do I know which components I need?
Start by taking your measurements and reading our How to Measure Guide. You can then use our product pages to build your component list, or contact us directly โ we’re happy to help you compile the right kit for your specific project.
Can I order individual components, or do I have to buy a full kit?
You can order individual components as well as complete kits. This is ideal for replacements, additions to existing systems, or larger projects with specific requirements.
What type of stainless steel do you use?
We primarily use 304-grade stainless steel for inland applications, which is highly durable and corrosion-resistant for most South African environments. For coastal areas (within approximately 5km of the ocean), we recommend 316 marine-grade stainless steel, which offers superior resistance to salt-air corrosion. Please mention your location when ordering if you are in a coastal zone.
Are your products suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Our stainless steel components are designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, including decks, balconies, staircases, pool areas, and garden boundaries.
Compatibility & Technical Questions
How do I know the components I order will be compatible with each other?
All components within each Balustrader system are designed to work together. Our product listings clearly indicate which items are compatible. If you’re unsure, please contact us before ordering โ we’d rather help you get it right the first time than have you return items.
What diameter tubing should I use for my project?
The most common diameters for handrail and balusters are 42.4mm (top rail) and 33.7mm (infill tubes). The right choice depends on your design, load requirements, and personal preference. Our product pages include guidance, or you can call us to discuss your project.
Do your balustrades comply with South African building regulations?
Our components are manufactured to professional industry standards. However, compliance depends on how the system is designed and installed โ not just the materials used. We recommend consulting SANS 10400 (The Application of the National Building Regulations) for the relevant height, spacing, and load requirements applicable to your project. Can I use these components for a staircase as well as a deck?
Yes. Our components are suitable for decks, balconies, staircases, and pool surrounds. Staircases require angled fittings to accommodate the rake of the stair โ please refer to our product range and guides, or contact us for specific advice.
Shipping & Delivery
How long will my order take?
Our products are manufactured to order. Please allow 10 โ 15 working days for manufacturing and preparation, followed by 2 โ 3 working days for courier delivery โ a total of approximately 12 โ 18 working days from confirmed payment.
Do you deliver to my area?
Yes โ we deliver nationwide across South Africa, including all major cities and most regional areas. Deliveries to remote or outlying addresses may take slightly longer.
How much does delivery cost?
Shipping costs are: Small orders โ R100 | Standard orders โ R250 | Large orders โ R800. The applicable cost is calculated automatically at checkout.
Can I track my order?
Yes. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive tracking information via email, allowing you to monitor your delivery directly through the courier’s platform.
Returns & Refunds
What if I order the wrong item?
We encourage you to double-check your measurements and component list before ordering. However, if you do receive incorrect or unsuitable items, our 30-day return policy allows you to return unused, unmodified items. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can help resolve it quickly.
What if my order arrives damaged?
Please inspect your order on delivery. If any items are damaged in transit, contact us within 48 hours with photographs and your order number. We will arrange a replacement or refund at no cost to you.
