The 1.6mm 2% Thoriated Red Tip Tungsten Electrode is a TIG welding electrode for welding stainless steel balustrade components. The 2% thoriated formulation — identified by its distinctive red tip — is a widely used and reliable general-purpose electrode that produces a stable, consistent arc on stainless steel, making it the standard choice for most stainless steel TIG welding applications.

The 1.6mm diameter is the lighter of the two electrode sizes in the range, suited to welding thinner, lighter gauge stainless steel tube — such as infill balusters, decorative tube profiles, and lighter structural connections where precise, controlled heat input is important for a clean weld without distortion or burn-through.

Sold individually at R32.00 per electrode. As with cutting discs, it is practical to keep spares on hand during a welding project — electrodes can be contaminated or damaged during use and having a fresh electrode readily available keeps the welding session moving without interruption.
